The records from the Alester G. Furman Company consist of files documenting the sale of real estate, primarily residential housing, by textile manufacturing companies during 1945-1970. The Furman Company served as the broker for the sale of real estate which, with respect to the residential housing, in most cases was sold to the mill workers. Charles Daniel started Daniel Construction Company in 1935. He acted as president and chairman of the board and oversaw the rapid growth of the company as it advanced to become one of the larges construction companies in the world. The Charles Daniel Papers document his activities as a business executive, a community leader, and a crusader for southern industry.

Some of this material was originally part of the holdings of the South Caroliniana Library of The University of South Carolina and the South Carolina Department of Archives and History.
