Blue Ridge Parkway Series, 1936 - 2005, bulk: bulk, 1978-1999
Scope and Contents
The files in this series were created as a result of Everhardt’s activities as Superintendent of the Blue Ridge Parkway from 1977-2000. In addition to material relating to the overall management of the Parkway there are files on the design and construction of the Blue Ridge Music Center in Galax, Virginia and the Parkway Headquarters and Linn Cove Viaduct in North Carolina; the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Parkway in 1985; the dedication of the Parkway in 1987; and correspondence with the Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway, in particular Executive Director Vera Guise and members Gene Messick and Garrett A. Smathers. A small amount of personal correspondence is also part of this series and includes letters to and from former National Park Service Directors Horace Marsden Albright and George B. Hartzog and conservationists Hugh Morton (owner of Grandfather Mountain, NC) and Nathaniel Pryor Reed which touch on National Park Service-related matters and conservation issues in general. Items in the series date from 1936 to 2005 with most of the material dating between 1978 and 1999. Material in this series is arranged alphabetically by folder title.
