Clemson to Armistead Burt, May 3, 1873 (2 pages); and Clemson to Burt, Jan, 31, 1874 (3 pages); also $1,000 Confederate bond, #4347, 6% (copy). The Francis Burt letter contains information about his family and their service in the Revolutionary War.

Biographical Note

Armistead Burt, son of Francis Burt, of Pendleton District, South Carolina moved to Abbeville, South Carolina and became U.S. Congressman 1843-1853. He married Martha Calhoun, niece of John C. Calhoun.

Ownership and Custodial History

Mr. Burt died at the home of Col. J.T. Robertson, Abbeville, 1883. His son, J.T. Robertson passed the Burt items to A.M. Robertson.

Immediate Source of Acquisiton

Allen M. Robertson, attending a Clemson Alumni reunion on June 9, 1961, gave these items to the library. Other items were added August 26, 1961
