The records of the Foundation include booklets, brochures, clippings, correspondence, lists, minutes, newsletter drafts, notes, receipts, reports and speeches. Most of the collection consists of notes and copies of drafts of annual meeting (1979-1984) and Board of Directors meeting (1972, 1974-1984, 1987, undated) minutes and newsletter drafts (1974, 1976-1977). There are also brochures for Ashtabula and Woodburn as well as for historic buildings in the Pendleton area in general; clippings relating to the creation of the Foundation; correspondence concerning gifts of the poetry books Call of the Sea and Other Verse and Footfalls and Echoes, both by Robert Adger Bowen, to various individuals; reports of the Research and Publication Committee for 1974 and 1984; and "Disjointed Notes on the Broyles Family" by Oze Van Wyck. Individuals whose writings figure prominently in the records are Juanita B. Garrison, Recording Secretary (c.1972-c.1984) and Newsletter Editor; Lib (Elizabeth) Meehan, Woodburn Chairman and Foundation President (1981-1985); James F. Miles, Foundation President (1965-1980); Frances C. Shackelford, Ashtabula Chairman; Mary Stevenson, Research and Publication Committee Chairman; and Lucile Watson.
The Foundation for Historic Restoration in Pendleton Area founded on June 1, 1960 and incorporated later that year. Its purpose is "to promote the education, cultural or other eleemosynary [charitable] purposes, and for the general welfare of the public through the preservation and restoration of historic sites in and around Pendleton, [South Carolina]." The Foundation operates two historic house museums, Ashtabula and Woodburn.
