Scope and Contents

The collection consists of photostatic copies of items from the South Carolina Department of Archives and History filed under "Public Improvements--Buildings; Petitions 1826; Pendleton District--Courthouse". The items in this collection include a 1819 petition to purchase a lot to build a jail in Pendleton, SC; an 1826 memorial and a statement concerning the erection of a new courthouse in Pendleton, the former having a plan of the village appended to it; an 1826 certification concerning the soundness of the foundation of the new courthouse at the site; and an undated appointment of commissioners to attend to repairs to the Pendleton jail.
