This original volume includes membership list, premium lists, constitution, minutes of meetings; two unattached pages, 1860; three undated newsclipping fragments; and one 1857 newsclipping pasted on fly leaf. The Agricultural Convention of South Carolina met in Columbia August 8 and 9, 1855, for the purpose of organizing a state agricultural society. The society promoted the improvement of agriculture in the state and sponsored what became the State Fair in Columbia. There is also a carbon typescript, 155 pages, of this volume, created by the Works Progress Administration in 1937 by the University of South Carolina.
