Scope and Contents

The photographs, clippings, and miscellaneous material within the scrapbook depict cadet life, athletics, and buildings at Clemson College circa 1926-1930. Reflections of cadet life include pictures of Craig's friends and classmates; regiments performing drills; and scenes of camp life and training at Fort McClellan, Ala. Other items that reflect cadet life are tuition receipts; correspondence from the Registrar's Office; class schedules including time, course, and professors; news clippings concerning the establishment of Tau Beta Pi Chapter; and clippings related to the Junior-Senior Reception in 1929. There are several photographs that depict the Fairgrounds in Columbia, S.C. that include some football related scenes. Buildings and locales depicted around the Clemson campus include Riggs Hall; Bowman Field; Sikes Hall; the train depot; and the Old Stone Church Cemetery.

Biographical / Historical

William David Craig, Jr. was born in Lancaster, South Carolina in 1908. He was the son of William David and Julia Craig. He had two sisters, Sara and Dorothy. William David Craig, Jr. attended Clemson College where he majored in Electrical Engineering. During his time at Clemson, Craig rose through the ranks of Private, First Sergeant, Captain, and then onto Regimental Staff. He was also an Honor Junior. He was a member of Eta Epsilon Sigma, 1929; Tau Beta Pi, 1929; First Sergeant's Club, 1929; Sabre Club, 1930; Chairman Program Committee, American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1930; Lancaster County Club, 1927-1929; Barracks Electrician, 1929; Junior-Senior Decorating Committee, 1929; Commencement Marshal, 1929; Senior Council; Cadet Discipline Committee; and Reserve Officers' Training Corps, Fort McClellan, Alabama. William David Craig, Jr. graduated from Clemson College in 1930. From 1940 until his retirement, he could be found in Chester, South Carolina where he was Superintendent of the Chester Branch of Duke Power Company. He died on January 21, 1991.
