This collection contains card files which document research conducted by Professor Tuttle concerning Ben Tillman and the South Carolina Liquor Dispensary. These cards index a number of publications related to the subject of liquor laws in South Carolina circa 1892-1909 including items from The State, Journal of the House, South Carolina Reports and Resolutions, and the Senate Journal. In addition, Governor Ben Tillman's letter books and correspondence were utilized for research. The material related to Governor Tillman is located at the South Carolina Department of Archives & History in Columbia, South Carolina.

Biographical Note

Jack E. Tuttle, longtime Political Science professor at Clemson University, was born on July 19, 1916 in Montrose, Pennsylvania. He was married to the former Margaret Todd of Columbia, South Carolina. He died in 1987.
