This material highlights community life, specifically that of Brandon Textile Mill and Parker High School in West Greenville, South Carolina. The collection contains photographs, magazines, and documents that reflect upstate South Carolina textile mill culture and education. The photographs, dated early 1920s, depict life in the Brandon Mills community. Included are scenes of the Haymakers Celebration Parade, the mill baseball team, individuals in the Red Men Order, Tom Bennett (General Manager of Brandon Mills), Carl P. Dill (Superintendent of Brandon Mills), and Brandon Mills front office employees. There are four magazines in this collection. They include: Quill Magazine (May 1953 and November 1966), The Village News, 1924, (news from Brandon, Poinsett, and Woodruff villages), and Red Man Booster, 1920, (Carl P. Dill featured). Personal documents that reflect education include a copy of Parker Scope vol. V, 1931, and two diplomas, 1926 and 1931, from Parker High School that belonged to Nora Dill.
Brandon Mill was built circa 1900 and was part of Greenville, South Carolina's once thriving textile industry until the 1970s when the manufacturing business began to decline. Parker High School in Greenville, South Carolina was built in the early 1920s to accommodate various local mill villages with an institution of higher education and vocational school which focused on textile research.
