This collection contains material related to the procurement of textile manufacturing equipment of both American and European origins. Correspondence, brochures, oversized blueprints, and photographs give insights into aspects of textile product development and marketing strategies circa 1955-1970.
George Griffiths was born on December 17, 1917. He was educated at the University of Manchester, Whitworth Street College from 1937 to 1943. Other educational credits included: London and City Guilds First Class Cotton Weaving Finals; Ordinary National Certificate - Textile Manufacturing; Lancashire and Cheshire Certificate of Textile Manufacturing; I.C.S. Weaving Shed Managers Diploma; and membership with both the Textile Institute and Paper Industry Management Association.
From 1933 to 1945 Griffiths worked at John Nichols Manufacturing Company of Manchester, England; 1945-1947 at Patrons and Baldwin in Yorkshire, England; 1947-1951 at Cosmos Imperial in Ontario, Canada; 1951-1961 at William E. Hooper and Sons in Baltimore, Maryland; and 1961-[?] at Mount Vernon Mills in Baltimore, Maryland.
