Biographical / Historical

The League of Women Voters of the Clemson Area (LWVCA) is a non-profit, non-partisan volunteer organization that was formed in 1968. It serves the people of Clemson, Central, Easley, Six Mile, Pickens, Liberty, Dacusville, Seneca, Walhalla, Westminster, Salem, Mountain Rest, Anderson, and Pendleton. The League aims to promote political responsibility through informed participation of citizens in government. The organization is commonly active within issues such as education, fiscal policy, voting rights, health care, and local/county/state governmental affairs. LWVCA members have also provided leadership to the League of Women Voters of South Carolina (LWVSC) by organizing and leading statewide meetings, serving in various capacities on the state board, and researching and preparing materials on selected topics for use by other local Leagues in the state. The group neither supports nor opposes candidates for office at any level of government. Rather, they seek influence on policy by striving to increase understanding through education, advocacy, and political lobbying.
