Abstract

This series contains photographs, negatives, slides, contact sheets, post cards, and transparencies of individuals and subjects related to Clemson University.

Arrangement

The volume and size of the series prevent a physical assemblage and arrangement of all the items in a single location. For these reasons, the series is organized intellectually into four sub-series:

Sub-series I. Subjects and individuals. The subject files contain images of about 400 subjects representing academic departments, athletics, buildings, campus scenes, events, groups, and organizations. The files of individuals represent approximately 1500 Clemson administrators, faculty, and staff. Most images measure eight by ten inches, but other sizes include four by five inches and five by seven inches.

Sub-series II. Negatives. This sub-series contains negatives of most of the subjects and individuals in Sub-series 1. The negatives vary in size.

Sub-series III. Accessions. This sub-series consists of material which for reasons of volume or format could not be integrated into the CU Photograph file. The materials, which include oversize photos, slides, transparencies, post cards, and negatives, are identified with accession numbers (a hyphenated number composed of the last two digits of a given year, followed by a sequential number that shows the order in which the material was acquired). Use of these accessions is facilitated by listings according to size, subject, format, and accession number.

Sub-series IV. Slides. This sub-series contains color slides that were produced by the Clemson University Communications Center, 1960-2004. The slides are divided into twenty-one subject categories.

Provenance

The provenance of this series consists of numerous individual and corporate donors from the years 1984-2005. The bulk of material was received from the Clemson News Bureau, Clemson News Services, and the offices of Public Relations, Publications and Graphics, Publications and Marketing, Publications and Promotion, and the Clemson University Communications Center. Additional information concerning accessions is available in the Special Collections unit.
