This collection contains typed drafts, paste-ups, corrections, editing symbols, galley proofs and final page proofs of the manuscript for Machine Design, published by McGraw Hill in 1956.
Joseph Edward Shigley was born April 10, 1909 in Delphi, Indiana. He earned two B.S. degrees from Purdue University: Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and did graduate work at University of Michigan. Following the lean depression years he took a position on the engineering faculty at Clemson College, South Carolina in 1936. He was head of Clemson's drawing and design department when he published his book Machine Design in 1956. He took a position at the University of Michigan in 1957.
