Scope and Contents

The Conservation Survey of the John C. Calhoun Mansion and the Hanover House at Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina by Dr. Nathan Stolow FIIC FAIC contains three major sections each with their own subsections conserning their respective conservation surveys. The three major sections are "Environmental and Conservation Survey of the Calhoun House", Environmental and Conservation Survey of the Hanover House", and General Remarks Concerning the Calhoun and Hanover Houses."

The Environmental and Conservation Survey of the Calhoun House section contains numerous subsections concerning the survey. Those subsections include: general description of the house and its setting, humidity and temperature, lighting, and additional observations. It also contains a subsection on the house's collections and their condition, including a summary of the costs of treatment for them. The final subsection concerns environment and physical improvements that can be made to the Calhoun House.

The Environmental and Conservation Survey of the Calhoun House section contains similar subsections to those of the Calhoun House survey. Those subsections include: general description of the house and its setting, humidity and temperature, lighting, and additional observations. It also contains a subsection on the house's collections and their condition, including a summary of the costs of treatment for them. The final subsection concerns environment and physical improvements that can be made to the Hanover House.

The General Remarks Concerning the Calhoun and Hanover Houses section contains the subsections "Curatorial Administration", "Organization Chart", and "Visitor Center."

Abstract

A conservation survey by Dr. Nathan Stolow, a conservation consultant from Williamsburg, Virginia, of the John C. Calhoun Mansion and Hanover House on the campus of Clemson University. The report is based on a three day conservation consulvation visit to Clemson University. Dr. Stolow was asked to carry out a "study of the condition of the Calhoun Mansion and Hanover Houseand make recommendations for modifications." Dr. Stolow had complete access to the Calhoun Mansion and Hanover House and their holdings and met extensively with Professor Alan Schaffer, Ann Russell and other University staff and officials.
