The W. K. Lewis, Jr. Papers document his time as a student at Clemson College and some of the activities of the Class of 1937 such as reunions. Most of the material in the collection is concerned with the governance of the cadets of the College and with social activities, especially dances. There are also photographs of members of the Class of 1937 and materials relating to the 1936 dedication of four new dormitories now known as The Quad.
The collection consists of Class minutes, clippings, correspondence, orders, programs, regulations, speech notes, a telegram, and other material arranged alphabetically by folder title. The material spans the period 1933-1938, with most of the material dating from 1934-1937.
This collection is useful in studying the history of Clemson College in the mid-1930’s, particularly its social aspects. The Papers also provide information on the Class of 1937.

Walter Keys Lewis, Jr. was born on March 15, 1916 and was the son of Dr. Walter Keys Lewis, Sr. and Mae Alford Lewis. He graduated from Clemson in 1937 with a degree in textile chemistry. After graduation he worked for the Sonoco Products Company in Hartsville, SC. Lewis served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was awarded the Legion of Merit. He married Henrietta Miles Lewis and they had two sons, Walter Keys III and Allen M. He served as Vice President of the Clemson Alumni Association in 1985 and was awarded the Association’s Distinguished Service Award in 1990. Lewis died on December 13, 2010.

The W. K. Lewis, Jr. Papers document the history of Clemson College in the mid-1930’s, particularly its social aspect, and a few of the activities of the Class of 1937 post-graduation. It also provides information on the dedication of the dormitories that would later become The Quad, which provides housing for members of fraternities and sororities.
The Papers consist of correspondence, programs, memorandums, orders, photographs and other material that document his time at Clemson College as a member of the Class of 1937 from 1934-1937 and as an alumnus of the College.
