Biographical / Historical

The John C. Calhoun Chapter of the United Daughers of the Confederacy was chartered October 27, 1905 with fourteen members. During the early years of the chapter their activities were varied and many. The chapter frequently entertained Confederate Veterans, held Confederate Memorial Day excercises at the Old Stone Church, and decorated the graves of Confederate soldiers. The chapter established a scholarship fund through fundraising efforts. The chapter aided in Clemson College's restoration of Fort Hill, through the authentication and purchase of furniture and artifacts that at one time belonged to the Calhouns or Clemsons.
