The Constituent Correspondence Series is a continuation of the Correspondence Management System (CMS) Series and covers the period from 1989 until the Senator’s retirement in 2002. This series is arranged chronologically by year and alphabetically by subject within each year. The records within each folder are arranged in chronological order.
The Correspondence Management System (CMS) Series, formerly known as the Subject Correspondence Series, is named for the central filing system that was used by Senator Strom Thurmond's office for all incoming and outgoing correspondence between 1976 and 1988. The CMS Series covers this period with some overlaps with the Subject Correspondence files for 1976. Correspondence from 1989 through 2002 is included in the Constituent Correspondence Series.
The material in the Strom Thurmond Collection Gubernatorial Series includes correspondence (both official and personal), campaign material, speeches and other items documenting Strom Thurmond's term as Governor of South Carolina from 1946-1951. Some of this material was originally part of the holdings of the South Caroliniana Library of The University of South Carolina and the South Carolina Department of Archives and History.
Correspondence, invitations, clippings and other material during the period between Thurmond's resignation from the Senate in April 1956 and his re-election to the Senate in November 1956. Includes veterans inquiries and referrels to interim Senator Thomas Wofford's office. Subjects covered include states' rights and the "bootlegging" of automobiles into Spartanburg County.
