Abstract
The James F. Byrnes Papers document his career as a U.S. Senator, U.S. Supreme Court Justice, Director of the Office of War Mobilization and Reconversion during World War II, U.S. Secretary of State, and Governor of South Carolina. The papers show his close relationship with President Franklin D. Roosevelt as Byrnes helps him pass New Deal legislation during the Depression and then coordinates the homefront economy during the war, as well as accompanying Roosevelt to the Yalta Conference....

Scope and Contents
The material in this series documents the Senator's campaigns from 1954 to 1978. This excludes the 1956 senatorial and the 1976 Presidential campaigns, for which no material is presently known to exist; some material on the 1960 senatorial campaign may be found in the Administrative Assistant series. These records not only document Thurmond's own campaigns; they also document other campaigns that he was involved in, especially the 1968 Presidential campaign.

This series contains primarily political cartoons that Strom Thurmond collected throughout his years of public service. With few exceptions, the subject of the cartoon is either Thurmond or a current event in which he was involved. Many of the cartoons are original drawings, sent to Thurmond by the cartoonists or their editors. Strom Thurmond Collection Scrapbooks

Scope and Contents
The final reel of microfilm is of three clippings scrapbooks created for the three youngest Thurmond children: James Strom Thurmond, Jr., Juliana Gertrude Thurmond, and Paul Reynolds Thurmond. These scrapbooks are similar in content and include articles that mention the children, including Senator Thurmond's birthday celebrations and coverage of Nancy Moore Thurmond's death in 1993. Some commencement programs and clippings are unique to the child whose name is on the scrapbook.
